Join us in this exploration of a gentle rolling winter wonderland set against the dramatic backdrop of the Churfisten ridgeline.

This trip is led by Lou Stone, international mountain leader.

What's the plan?

We meet at 09:45 at Alt St. Johann Sellamattbahn valley station. We will take a scenic gondola up and spend the day hiking and exploring the area. The route we take and distance we cover will depend on the snow conditions on the day and the ability of the group.

Optional warm refreshments afterwards at Berghotel Sellamatt.

Technical info: 7-8km - max 300m ascent - max 700m descent

Requirements

To join this event, you need to be a fit hiker. No previous snowshoeing experience needed.

Insurance

It is the participant's responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).

How to get there

If you are traveling from Zurich by public transport, we recommend you take the following:

  • Zurich HB 07:54 - 09:38 Alt St. Johann, Dorf ****(via Rapperswill SG, Wattwil)
  • Alt St. Johann, Dorf ****16:16 - 18:05 Zurich HB (via Wattwil, Rapperswill SG) - depending on the time the event finishes

If you are traveling by car, head to Wattwil SG, then take route 16 to Alt St Johann. Free parking at Parkplatz Sellamattbahn, 9656 Alt St Johann.

Cable car return CHF 29 / 14.50 with Halbtax or GA.

You have the possibility to rent the following equipment, directly from the guide:

  • Snowshoes and poles: CHF 15
  • Avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe: CHF 25

You will receive an email with a form to fill in a few days before the event, where you can inform us about which items you’d like to rent. These can be paid by cash or Twint on the event day.
