Back to the Stone Age: A Neolithic Experience Weekend
Step back in time and discover the art of prehistoric living. Craft, create, and connect with ancient skills on this Neolithic adventure in the Lacustrine Village of Gletterens.
Gletterens is a representation of prehistoric Neolithic architecture. It offers visitors a glimpse into the era of the Plateau's first farmers, as well as an ideal setting to experience, through specific acts and gestures, the crafts and way of life of the Lacustrine people.
The village has 4 thatched-roof houses and one shingled-roof house. It is located just a few hundred metres from Neuchâtel Lake and the Gletterens beach, in the Grande Cariçaie reserve. There is access to conventional toilets, a water supply and, if required, a shower with hot water.
This weekend is led by Mathieu Frommel and Luca Durante, both Wilderness, Bushcraft and Archeology Experts.
What's the plan?
The activities will start on Saturday morning at 10:00, but those who wish can come as early as Friday evening.
Here is a glimpse of the activities offered throughout the weekend:
- Making a friction fire kit (each participant gets to make and keep their fire kit)
- Fire lighting and prehistorical meal
- Sewing kit workshop using bone, leather and sinew
- Purse making (or another object, at your convenience) from prehistoric tanned leather
The course will finish at dusk on Sunday. We invite participants to sleep onsite, but if they do not wish to do so, it is possible for them toelsewhere by their own means. The second day of the course starts onSunday at 09:00.
All the materials needed for the crafts and for life onsite are provided by Mathieu and Luca. There is no access to electricity onsite.
Meals on Saturday will be shared together in the form of a Canadian buffet, where everyone contributes a dish to create a diverse and communal feast. We encourage participants to bring specialties from their region or culture to share with the group, making the meals a unique experience. On Sunday, we will prepare a prehistoric meal over the fire, lit by the participants themselves, as part of the hands-on activities.
